Quality over Generations
Founded in 1761, the company developed from the middle of the 19th century on to the most important manufacturer of wood-cased graphite and colour pencils. It was then that Baron Lothar von Faber turned a pencil into the world’s first branded writing implement.
Faber-Castell with a company history of more than 240 years is not only the oldest but one of the most renowned companies in the writing implement industry in the world. Our house has been in family possession for eight generations.
His granddaughter and heir, Baroness Ottilie von Faber, married into one of the oldest German families of earls and was wed to Count Alexander zu Castell-Rüdenhausen.
Pen of the Year 2003
To launch this “pen of the year” series, Faber-Castell chose a piston system fountain pen with a finely ribbed barrel made of snakewood.
The characteristic markings that give this wood its name exert a magical attraction, not just on connoisseurs. Snakewood, with its reddish brown figured grain, is one of the heaviest and most costly types of wood in the world; it is used, for example, for violin bows and exclusive carved works of art..
High Quality Presentation
The year 2003 marks the start of a new series of special editions, which every year will present a new magnum version of the Graf von Faber-Castell fountain pen. Each edition is produced for one year only.
Whose elegance and craftsmanship have established them a position at the upper end of the market. Another characteristic feature is the typical ribbed surface of all the writing implements in the collection.
